For years, travel was something that we wanted to do eventually, when it made sense, when it was easier, when we had more time and money and fewer obstacles in our way. Then we had our daughter, Violet, and everything changed.Â

Within a year, we’d split our family between two cities and hospitals, went through multiple pediatric open heart surgeries, the heart transplant process, the transition home, and eventually, her funeral. We blinked, and our lives had transformed. Time together was suddenly our most precious asset, and we realized that nothing was guaranteed. The smallest things that we’d been able to experience during our daughter’s short life were precious to us. The medical bills, the challenges it took us to have time and memories with her, they didn’t even cross our minds. Â

As we moved forward with our sons, we were determined to live in a way that honored Violet, a life we’d be grateful for if everything changed again tomorrow. Travel, memories, and time together as a family became our overriding priorities.
As a research enthusiast, I turned to the internet to get tips, ideas, and information for trips that worked for us. Traveling with family is fun, but it doesn’t come without challenges. I hope to share what we’ve discovered, and maybe take a little stress out of your own planning process. Thanks for joining us on our adventures!
